Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a form of natural, holistic (Chinese) therapy based on the discovery that there are reflexes on the feet that correspond to the energy of specific organs and body parts to promote healing and release energy blockages which can cause illness, over time.  It is a non invasive and safe method of treatment in which these reflex points are connected by nerve and energy pathways to all parts of the body. Tenderness, crystals and temperature, over a reflex point indicates that the part of the body to which it corresponds, is out of balance because of congestion somewhere in its energy pathway.

Foot reflexology can boost the immune system, increase circulation, release muscular tension, pain control, headaches, TMJ, cleanse toxins  from the body and balance energy.  The treatment reduces tension and induces deep relaxation, which not only help to restore health but also prevent disease enabling the body to  heal itself more effectively.  There are many Research Papers on the effectiveness of Reflexology and some are linked, below.

Reflexology relieves stress and tension, aids sleep, improves circulation both of blood and lymph supply (which can get stagnant due to trauma, illness, diet and more) to cells and tissues, and helps promote the natural function of the body.  It stimulates nerve supply and flow of nerve energy in the body, enhancing energy and vitality.  As in acupuncture, energy pathways are opened up and energy flows, returning the body to its natural rhythms.

How Reflexology Works

Reflexology induces a state of deep  relaxation and since it has been estimated that about 75% of disease is stress related, this is a major contribution to the return of health.  As treatments continue, over time this state of relaxation becomes deeper and more established.

Reflexology stimulates the nervous system, blood and lymph supply to cells and tissues enhancing energy, vitality and elimination of fats and toxins from the body.

Congestion or symptoms of ill health in the body are revealed as tenderness or pain over the reflex areas which usually subside following the application of gentle or firm pressure over the area.  Grit like structures can sometimes be felt causing tenderness and these can easily be broken down and discomfort will be less, each time.

Reflexology enables the body to heal itself and gives the body a thorough workout.

Results from reflexology are often subtle and are cumulative, therefore, you are more likely to see greater benefits from regular sessions, for example, once a week for say up to 6 weeks then have a 'top up' sessions once every month.

Several studies indicate that reflexology can reduce pain and psychological symptoms, such as stress and anxiety, and enhance relaxation and sleep. Given that reflexology is also low risk, it can be a reasonable option if you're seeking relaxation and stress relief.  As a reflexologist for over 9 years, I can say, that after a few sessions (3 to 5)  you will begin feel a difference and with more regular sessions, you will be totally hooked.
